Smash Words/Cento Poetry With Peter Dugan

A workshop focusing on Smash Words/Cento poetry, or borrowed lines recontextualized, with LI Poet of the Year 2026 Peter Dugan. A Cento poem is a poem made up entirely of lines taken from other poems. A Smash Words Cento “smashes” things up by taking these lines and rearranging, juxtaposing, and re-contextualising them. The goal is to take ideas from different sources to produce something unexpected, fresh and new. Peter Dugan, Long Island Poet of the Year 2026, also served as the Nassau County Poety Laureate 2017-2019. He has published five books of poetry, including Vistas: Poems from a Cul-de-Sac off of Mainstreet, and has published poems in many literary magazines.
