Mahjong Guided & Open Play at Bottle Theory in Elmhurst

Play more Mahjong with us, with tableside coaching and support as needed. Must have completed Beginner 101 class or equivalent. Already know the basics but not quite ready to play on your own? Guided/Open Play is the perfect bridge between learning and confident gameplay. This session is not a beginner class — instead, you’ll play real games at your own pace, with friendly, tableside coaching whenever you need it. Certified instructor Angela Buikema and her assistant instructors circulate throughout the room to answer questions, help with strategy, scoring, Charleston sequences, and interpreting the Mahjong card—without interrupting the flow of the game. You’ll grow your skills naturally, while actually playing — and you’ll do it in a relaxed, supportive, and social environment alongside other players at the same stage of learning. ✨ Perfect for you if: • You’ve taken a beginner class and want more practice • You know the basic flow but still have “Is this Mahjong?” moments • You like learning at the table rather than watching a lesson • You’d love coaching but also want real gameplay This is where confidence grows, friendships form, and Mahjong clicks. All Mahjong sets provided. Please bring your NMJL card; we'll have a few available to borrow as well. Come early and get a great lunch and enjoy Bottle Theory's amazing beverage selection.
