Sonic Resonance DJ Panel featuring Pryde Davis, Passion Purée, Yanna Lynnette, moderated by Rory Leighton Presented in partnership with Sonic Resonance The Patchbent Sessions are a meeting place and learning community supporting women, trans, and non-binary people in sound and music. This panel discussion features Chicago selectors Pryde Davis, Passion Purée, and Yanna Lynette, moderated by arts producer and house music documentarian Rory Leighton. Combined with a listening session and gear overview, panelists will discuss their experience at Sonic Resonance, how they imagine themselves fitting into the larger scene, historically and in the present, and what that means for how they’ve formed their unique sound and approach, and the tools/materials they use to shape it. Sliding scale, donation-based participation Spots are limited, registration required Artist Bios Yanna Lynnette Born and Raised on the West side, Chicago native Yanna Lynette carries a tradition that spans generations. Playing and exploring the expansive and deep sounds of the Black Diaspora, from the hard and rhythmic sounds of the Midwest all the way to the unlimiting, drum heavy sounds of Africa— Yanna is honoring the sonics of the past and those that come before them, whilst blending and pushing this sound forward. Their sound affirms a simple truth: these are not separate genres, but one collective Black message stretched across tempos and frequencies. Yanna had the privilege to take this love and research of music to various places across Chicago, playing and speaking at venues such as the Chicago House Music Festival and the Chicago Cultural Center, and more.. Their diligence and respect to the craft has also landed them the privilege of being on lineups alongside trailblazers and those who have spearheaded House music culture such as Kai Alcé, Duane Powell, Celeste Alexander, Gene Hunt, DJ Lady D, and more. When it comes to creating community-minded dancefloors, Yanna is connecting the mind to the body, and the body to the soul creating sonics for people to move to in rhythm, spirit, and joy. ₊˚⊹⋆˙౨ৎ˚⟡˖ ࣪ Pryde Davis Lileana Pryde Davis Moore is an interdisciplinary sound and visual artist and performer seeking to unite our inner worlds with our outer reality. Lileana is a student of the city and was educated by many of Chicago’s eclectic extracurricular offerings for young students in the arts. She now seeks to bring resources back to those institutions and find ways to support their educational missions for students like her. Lileana has exhibited work at programs like Black Harvest film festival and Steppenwolf lookout series. She has made joyful music with her friends at venues around the country. She invites you to climb inside her heart if you promise to leave things where you found it. Passion Purée Passion Purée is a DJ and artist based out of Chicago. A dancer first, she’s committed to carving out a sonic space for the bodily release of black, queer women and people. Their sound finds its home in techno, with the caress of polyrhythms from the Caribbean and across the diaspora. Centered in radical self expression, Passion finds freedom and safety in movement. The spaces they aim to create, encourage people to move in ways that feel good in their own body. As you step into Passion’s realm, she welcomes you to surrender yourself to the freedom of allowing your body to speak its own language. Rory Leighton Rory Leighton is a Chicago-based creative producer whose work centers on expanding access to artistic education, with a practice spanning live experiences, commercial strategy, and artist development. As founder of Reborn, a cultural production agency, Rory has worked with partners including the James Beard Foundation, Frieze, SXSW, and 1-54 Art Fair to develop activations and programs across art, food, music, and public life. Across their work, Rory has also made a notorious habit of bringing Midwest artists into those projects and getting them paid.
