Audiofuturism with Prof. André Carrington at University of South Carolina

Prof. André Carrington from UC-Riverside will discuss his new book about Science Fiction Radio Drama and the Black Fantastic Imagination. The Humanities Collaborative is pleased to welcome andré m. carrington for a lecture and Q&A about his new book, Audiofuturism. This event is free and open to the public. Audiofuturism: Science Fiction Radio Drama and the Black Fantastic Imagination uncovers the vibrant, overlooked history of radio adaptations that placed Black speculative writing before mass audiences. The study moves from World War II to the digital age through writers such as Samuel Delany, Octavia Butler, and Toni Morrison. The result is a fresh account of adaptation that enlarges the archive of Black sound, reframes radio as a site of cultural world-making, and invites readers to listen again to the past in order to imagine different futures. andré m. carrington is an English professor at the University of California-Riverside, where he is affiliated faculty in the Department of Black Study and director of the program in Speculative Fiction & Cultures of Science. He is the author of Audiofuturism: Science Fiction Radio Drama and the Black Fantastic Imagination and Speculative Blackness: The Future of Race in Science Fiction, and editor of The Black Fantastic: 20 Afrofuturist Stories.
