A welcoming, low-sensory environment tailored to meet the unique needs of individuals with Developmental and Physical Disabilities Haircare should be an empowering and accessible experience for everyone, but we know that for individuals with Developmental, intellectual, and physical disabilities and their caregivers/ families, that is not always the case. The Kind Strands Clinic was created specifically to provide FREE sensory-friendly, inclusive haircuts and simple hairstyles to those individuals and their families. Every service is provided with patience, understanding, and care by professional volunteer hair stylists and barbers. Kind Strands Clinic was founded by people with lived experience & caring hearts wanting to make an impact within our community. The Kind Strands Clinic offers a welcoming, low sensory environment tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. Whether navigating sensory sensitivities or physical accommodations, our professional volunteer barbers and stylists are dedicated to delivering gentle, high-quality hair care while prioritizing comfort, inclusivity, and confidence. The clinic serves children, youth, and individuals with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities within our community. Our mission is to alleviate the stress, sensory issues, financial, and accessibility barriers often associated with hair grooming that non-disabled persons don't have to consider. We want to create a safe space where everyone feels seen, supported, celebrated and most importantly, CONFIDENT . The Kind Strands Clinic is a joint venture between Enduring Minds The Foundation and Kidz on the Blok. Enduring Minds The Foundation is a dedicated nonprofit serving as a resource to those enduring chronic neurological conditions. Enduring Minds is proud to serve the chronically ill, rare illness, and neurodivergent/disability community with holistic wellness initiatives, community-building events, patient & legislative advocacy, and research support. Kidz on the Blok is rooted in youth empowerment and community engagement, providing inclusive spaces, creative enrichment programs, and essential resources to help young people thrive through hair care, self-love, life skills, and confidence building. Both of these wonderful organizations are 501c3 nonprofits and have 10+years of combined service in the Columbus community. This clinic will travel and be in different locations around Columbus throughout the year. This is a free event but spots must be reserved to ensure time with a stylist or barber.
