Professional Meet-Up | Spotlight: Academia

An evening for Latino Professors to connect, collaborate and build comunidad across campuses. Hosted by Latinos of Montclair. Calling all Latino Professors! Latinos of Montclair is launching our Professional Meet-Up series, and our very first spotlight is on academia. Academia can feel isolating, especially for Latino scholars. We teach, research y mentor, but rarely get the chance to connect with one another across campuses and disciplines. This evening changes that. Join Latino Professors from across North Jersey (tenured, adjunct, fellows, lecturers and visiting faculty) for an evening of conversation, connection and empowerment. Hosted by Latinos of Montclair with board member Matthew Marroquín, Rutgers University–Newark fellow and adjunct professor. What to expect: • Meet Latino academics across institutions and disciplines • Conversations about community, identity and the role of scholars beyond the classroom • A first look at how LoM's professor network will help shape upcoming VOCES conversations, film screenings and community dialogues Who should attend: Latino Professors and academics of all ranks and disciplines at colleges and universities in the NJ/NY area. Location: 60 S Fullerton Ave, Montclair, NJ 07042 Date & time: Thursday, October 22, 2026 · 6:30–9:30 PM About the organizer: Latinos of Montclair is a grassroots 501(c)(3) founded in 2022 out of a simple recognition: that in one of New Jersey's most diverse and progressive towns, the American Latino experience was still largely invisible. Its mission is to build a more inclusive community by uplifting American Latino voices and experiences in Montclair and across New Jersey — through arts and culture programming, youth leadership, and gatherings where strangers become community.
