UNC Greensboro's CSD Department is hosting the 10th Annual Alumni and Friends Workshop (October 9, 2026) UNCG's 10th Annual CSD Alumni and Friends Workshop In-Person and Virtual (Livestream) Date: October 9, 2026 Time: 10am - 3pm Lunch: (12-1pm) provided with registration for In-person attendees. Location: Elliott Center (EUC), Alexander Room on the UNC Greensboro Campus. Registration Advance registration required: • In-Person Event: $50 (includes lunch) • Virtual (Livestream) Event: $30 **The In-Person event will be capped at 100 attendees** UNCG 10th Annual Alumni and Friends Workshop Details: Title: Making the Shift: Neurodiversity-Affirming Strategies in Action Credit Hours: 4 Course Description: This day long training invites SLPs, clinicians and students to reimagine assessment and intervention through a neurodiversity-affirming lens. Led by Chris Wenger, M.S., CCC-SLP, and Jessie Ginsburg, M.S., CCC-SLP, this session challenges traditional, deficit-based models and equips participants with practical, activity-based strategies to honor autistic strengths, support regulation, and promote authentic communication. Through discussion, case examples, and interactive learning, participants will explore neurodiversity-affirming approaches to sensory regulation, communication, social learning, and self-advocacy, walking away with tools they can apply immediately in clinical and educational settings. Learning Objectives: Upon completion, participants will be able to: • Describe the core principles of the neurodiversity paradigm and how they apply to clinical and classroom practice. • Identify strategies for supporting sensory and emotional regulation using co-regulation and environmental modifications. • Apply neurodiversity-affirming approaches to communication, social learning, and self-advocacy that move beyond traditional, deficit-based models. The virtual meeting will remain open (muted) from 12pm-1pm. Virtual attendees may stay logged in through lunch, or may log out and return at 1pm for the rest of the Livestream. No replay or session recordings will be available after the event concludes, so make sure to log on at the scheduled time so you don't miss anything! The link will be emailed to all registered attendees with event reminders, and again, within 24 hours of the event. Certificate of Attendance: A Certificate of Attendance for 4 hours will be available for all Attendees confirmed in attendance for both In-person and Virtual Livestream Events. Complete the survey distributed at the end of the presentation and submit the request for your certificate (see the FAQ's for more details). The Certificate of Attendance may be used as proof of participation if you are audited by ASHA or the NC Board of Examiners (ASHA CEUs not provided). The 2026 Alumni and Friends Workshop is hosted by the UNC Greensboro Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders; made possible because of the Newton-Dodson Endowment.
