The next step to turning a bowl - make a lidded bowl. This advanced level class will have you using better techniques & skill to use at home Turn a Lidded Bowl A lidded bowl is one of the most impressive projects you can make on a lathe. It combines bowl turning with precise lid fitting — and when you get that lid to seat just right, there's nothing like it. In this class, you'll turn a complete lidded bowl from start to finish and take it home ready for display, kitchen storage, or gift-giving. What Sets This Class Apart: If you've taken a bowl turning class before, you already know how to shape the outside and hollow the inside. This class builds on those skills by adding the challenge of a fitted lid — which means you're working with tighter tolerances, thinking about how two separate pieces relate to each other, and learning techniques that open the door to boxes, vessels, and other lidded forms. What You'll Learn: • Lid fitting — How to measure, cut, and shape both the bowl rim and lid so they fit together with a clean friction fit or seated fit. This is the core skill of the class, and getting it right is deeply satisfying. • Bowl shaping and proportion — How to shape a bowl that looks balanced with a lid on top, with consistent wall thickness and a stable base • Hollowing — Techniques for removing material from the interior while keeping your walls even and your surfaces smooth • Decorative lid options — Adding a finial, knob, or shaped handle to the top of your lid to give it character and function • Finishing — Sanding and sealing your lidded bowl for its intended use, whether that's holding fruit on the counter, storing jewelry, or sitting on a shelf as a piece of art What You'll Take Home: A finished lidded bowl with a properly fitted lid — a piece that looks and feels like it came from a professional woodturner's studio. Skill Level: Some basic turning experience is helpful. If you've taken one of our bowl turning or introductory lathe classes, you'll be well prepared. Our instructors will guide you through every step regardless of your level. Good to Know: • All materials, tools, and equipment provided • Students aged 14–17 require a parent or guardian present • All participants receive a 15% discount on in-store purchases the day of class (exclusions apply) Want something more personalized?
