Full description from organizer

Eastern Projects Gallery proudly presents Macabre, a wicked group exhibition featuring 100 artists, curated by Los Angeles artist Albert Reyes. The exhibition includes Tim Biskup, Luke Chueh, Shizu Saldamando, Carlos Ramirez, Maria Maea, Jaime Muñoz, Cleon Peterson, Ruben Preciado, Aaron Rose, Skullphone, Shark Toof, and many others. Join us for the Opening Reception on October 3, 2026, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Enjoy complimentary drinks, meet the artists and curator, explore the exhibition, and experience Reyes' Haunt Installation, if you dare. At the center of the exhibition is a Haunt Installation created by Reyes, inspired by his deadly love of haunted houses. For nearly 25 years, Reyes has transformed his backyard into an elaborate Halloween environment, building and reworking his handmade haunt art maze for an annual celebration that brings together artists, musicians, comedians, friends, and the wider Los Angeles creative community. The entire space becomes part of the experience, with artwork, installations, performances, costumes, and the haunted maze woven throughout the celebration. Versions of his haunt have also appeared at venues including the Pacific Design Center and Superchief Gallery. Reyes first brought his haunted-house world into Eastern Projects in 2019 during his solo exhibition Dreamers of the American Dream, creating a haunt installation inside the gallery. For Macabre, he returns with a new installation that expands on that tradition, bringing the spirit of his backyard celebrations into the gallery once again. The artists in Macabre reflect the creative community that has surrounded Reyes throughout his career. Among the featured artists is Luke Chueh, whose paintings are known for pairing deceptively playful characters with darker themes. He explores human emotion, loneliness, identity, and the absurd, balancing haunting themes with humor. Chueh has also been part of Reyes' annual Halloween gatherings, making his inclusion in Macabre meaningful. Another featured artist, Tim Biskup, brings his distinctive blend of surreal imagery, bold color, and imaginative characters to Macabre. His playful yet often strange and unsettling visual language adds another dimension to the exhibition's exploration of the uncanny. For Reyes, Macabre is less about defining what Halloween means and more about celebrating what October brings out in artists: the strange, the dark, the humorous, the personal, and the unexpected. With 100 artists coming together under one roof, the exhibition becomes a celebration of art, community, and the macabre.
