Foraging & Plant Identification 2026

Learn about seasonal wild edibles in this fun and informative foraging walk. Foraging is a growing interest in our society and more people are searching for ways to obtain food in a self reliant manner. It is essential to be sure we are foraging safely, ethically, and without causing damage to our landscape. Every season and landscape offers unique and nutritious plants to eat and prepare as medicine! Let’s go on a walk and learn about the most local, organic, and free food in our area! In this class, we will cover many plant species, and plant parts to eat or collect for medicine and utilitarian use. We will be hiking through varied terrain, on and off trail, up to 1 mile. If time allows, students will also learn how to make rope out of local plants. Please be prepared to be in all weather conditions, or in an open field in the sun as we find edible plants. Depending on the time of year, each class will explore different plants. Spring classes tend to focus more on greens and leaves, summer classes focus on berries and flowers, and fall classes focus on nuts, like acorns. What to bring: • notebook and pen • comfortable walking clothing • water and snacks This class will be taught by Tim Swanson, Founder and lead instructor of Owl Eyes Wilderness Survival.
