Full description from organizer

Join us for a four-part lecture series exploring the people, places, and ideas that shaped Plymouth during the American Revolution. In-person and Online tickets available During the American Revolution, Plymouth’s Patriots and Loyalists fought not only over politics, but over the meaning of the town’s past. This lecture explores how both sides sought to claim the Pilgrim legacy for themselves, using Forefathers’ Day, Plymouth Rock, and the memory of the Mayflower generation to shape competing visions of liberty, loyalty, and American identity. Speaker Bio: Dr. Patrick Browne is a historian, writer, and currently serves as Executive Director of the Plymouth Antiquarian Society. He holds a Ph.D. in History from Boston University, along with an M.A. in History and a B.A. in English from UMass Amherst. He formerly taught at Boston University and served as Executive Director of Pilgrim Hall Museum and the Duxbury Rural and Historical Society. Patrick is the author of two local history books and several scholarly articles. His award-winning dissertation examined civilian relief workers and Union veterans during the Civil War. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Plymouth Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency. Not yet a member? Join now.
