Can Design Outlive Humanity? A 10,000-Year Design Challenge

Hello, I'm Vidal. I really like meeting fun, like-minded designers to chat about design and just random hypothetical stuff. Those are honestly my favorite kinds of conversations. The way the world is working rn, it feels like everything is shifting so fast. I lowkey feel like we're all back at square one, trying to figure out what our work even looks like now that AI is changing everything. It's weird, exciting, and kinda uncomfortable all at the same time. For me, I'm still really into design. I work as a Product Designer at Kargo, where I build AI-powered creative tools and products. I also spend a lot of time helping teams adopt AI in ways that actually make their work easier, not just because it's the newest shiny thing. I love building products, but I also love talking about where all of this is headed and what it means for us as designers. With that said, I'm excited to invite y'all to my very first design workshop. And yes... It's absolutely free. The workshop is centered around one of my favorite hypothetical questions that I always bring up with people: If you could send one message to humans 10,000 years from now, what would you say? That's it. Bring art supplies, pencils, and paper. Use your creativity! This workshop is something I've been shaping and refining for the past few years, simply because I genuinely enjoy exploring this question with others. Design is more than solving problems for today's users. It is an attempt to communicate across time, culture, and changing ways of thinking. Every message we create carries assumptions about language, symbols, values, and what we believe others will understand. But cultures evolve, meanings shift, and knowledge can be lost, forgotten, or reinterpreted over generations. If every generation sees the world differently, what does it take to create a message that can still be understood thousands of years from now? Is it the words we choose, the symbols we create, the materials we leave behind, or something else entirely? Together, we'll explore these questions through a speculative design challenge that pushes us beyond conventional UX thinking. We'll question what makes communication durable, how meaning changes over time, and whether design can outlive the civilization that created it.
