Full description from organizerShow less
A special-edition, two-part guided walking tour that explores the Lenape and Black histories woven into the island we call home. Sanakori (Taino Fun House, Shorakapok Earth Keepers, Mobile Indigenous Library, CyberBehike Podcast) will lead our Shorakapok Walk and David Quinteros (Fractal Walking Tours) will guide our Werpoes Walk. The full experience consists of participating in both tours, each unique and complimentary to one another. However, if you can only attend one, please still do so, as it's guaranteed to be worthwhile. This event will be conducted in English. We are proud to announce that this year's guest of honor will be Lenni Lenapexkweyok, a women’s collective from five federally recognized Lenape nations: the Delaware Tribe of Oklahoma, the Delaware Nation of Oklahoma, the Delaware Nation at Moraviantown, the Munsee-Delaware Nation, and the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans. They coordinate homecoming trips for Lenapes residing in Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Ontario as a way of intergenerational healing. On June 20th of this year, members of the collective attended the NYC screening of The Birth of Lenni Lenapexkyweyok: A Collaboration Between Catalyst and Lenape Matriarchs, a documentary film about their 2022 return to the ancestral homeland.
