Vocal Gumbo: A Celebration of the Human Voice! Vocal Gumbo and The Village Trip combine their missions for one spectacular night of music at Drom. Vocal Gumbo celebrates the diverse and gorgeous “village of vocalists” in the regular series they have been producing since 2018. And The Village Trip literally celebrates the Village, with its rich history of arts and activism. The collaborative theme for the night is Musical Activism – Songs of Dissent and Hope and the doyennes of Vocal Gumbo – Janis Siegel (of The Manhattan Transfer) and Lauren Kinhan (of New York Voices) have planned a feast for the aching heart, the activist mind, and the hope for a brighter future. Our special guest is in fact four women, evoking the theme and bending the song to the mission of the night. They will combine their gifts for one song and then step out for a solo moment. It’s a Babette’s Feast of sonority and sorority. In addition we have the stunning crafts from Theo Bleckmann, Sofia Rei, Lezlie Harrison, and there may even be a few surprises. Featuring a wonderful trio…Andy Ezrin on piano, Boris Koslov on bass and Vince Cherico on drums.
