SANKOFA SERIES: The Miseducation of the African Diaspora

Dive into the Mainstream media's role and agenda to miseducate and divide the African Diaspora in this eye-opening in-person session. SANKOFA SERIES: The Miseducation of the African Diaspora This event critically examines how mainstream media has systematically weaponized deficit-based portrayals to alienate and divide the global African Diaspora. It highlights the intentional orchestration of cultural disconnect by feeding localized stereotypes to different segments of the Black diaspora. In Western countries, Africa is persistently depicted as a monolith of poverty, warfare, and underdevelopment. Conversely, media broadcasts targeting the African continent frame African-Americans predominantly through monolithic lenses of criminality, gang culture, and violence. This dual-sided miseducation creates a profound wedge between communities sharing identical ancestral lineages, fracturing global African/Black solidarity.
