Full description from organizer

Please join us in celebrating Nancie Battaglia's induction into the Lake Placid Hall of Fame. The Lake Placid Hall of Fame Committee will host its 43rd Annual Induction Ceremony on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at Northwood School’s Innovation Hub to honor photographer Nancie Battaglia. Founded in 1983, the Lake Placid Hall of Fame has recognized more than 130 distinguished individuals and teams whose achievements have helped shape the region’s heritage. The Hall of Fame celebrates each inductee’s accomplishments through a formal induction ceremony and commemorative plaque. The Hall of Fame preserves their stories online and through a digital kiosk in the Conference Center at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid. Nancie Battaglia’s photography captures the breadth and depth of the Lake Placid community, documenting its people, culture, and athletic achievements while sharing the beauty and spirit of the Adirondack region with audiences around the world. Through her lens, she reflects a deep affection for and understanding of this special place and the people who make it unique. Join the Lake Placid community in celebrating Nancie Battaglia and honoring her place among the remarkable individuals whose contributions have helped shape and preserve the history of the Olympic Region. The ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at Northwood School’s Innovation Hub (2495 Main Street, Lake Placid, NY). Tickets are $30. Nancie Battaglia: In January of 1978 Nancie Battaglia arrived in Lake Placid as the newly hired chief still photographer for the Lake Placid Olympic Organizing Committee, her first foray in photographing Winter Olympics. She went on to tally coverage of 12 Olympics—10 winter and two summer. A freelance photographer since 1980, she has been published extensively. She was the Adirondack region stringer for the Associated Press, United Press International and The New York Times. Other assignments and published credits came from a variety of worldwide media, including Sports Illustrated, Ski, Boys Life, Newsweek, ESPN the Magazine, TV Guide, Audubon, The Olympian, Paddler, AMC Outdoors, Country Journal and more. Locally she remains a frequent contributor to Adirondack Life magazine, the Adirondack Explorer, Upstate Sports, Adirondac, Peeks, NCPR and many books, calendars, newsletters, websites and media for area businesses, nonprofits, schools and athletic organizations. While embracing the outdoor lifestyle of the Adirondacks, Battaglia has met the challenge of becoming a 46er (four times), and has earned badges for the Fire Towers, 9ers, 6ers, 12sters Tupper Triad, Fulton Chain, Chester Challenge, Cranberry 50 and almost the Northville-Placid Trail. She has plied the waters for the 90-Miler Canoe Classic repeatedly. Her triathlon list includes the Tupper Lake Tinman, Old Forge and Lake Placid Mini Tri. She is a loon counter and a lean-to adopter. Nordic, alpine skiing and wild ice-skating get her through the winter. Civically, she has served on boards and committees for local arts, and historic and sports organizations. Her life’s work has been recognized by Adirondack Architectural Heritage, the Geneseo Central School Hall of Fame, and St. Lawrence University’s North Country Citation. Forever grateful to live here, Nancie Battaglia contributes energy, imagery and vision as she experiences and documents all things Adirondack. The 2026 Lake Placid Hall of Fame Committee, chaired by Bill Hurley, includes Katie Brennan, Tom Broderick, Trish Friedlander, Luke Hudak, Mike Butler, Denise Erenstone, Jay Rand, and Peter Roland.
