Messiah Wickford

Experience Handel's Messiah as you've never heard it before: intimate, vivid and electrifying. MESSIAH AS YOU'VE NEVER HEARD IT BEFORE Ensemble Altera returns to historic Wickford for one of Rhode Island's most intimate and exhilarating holiday traditions: our boldly reimagined chamber performance of Handel's Messiah. Rather than the enormous forces often associated with the work, Altera returns Messiah to something closer to its theatrical and human scale: a compact ensemble of exceptional professional singers and instrumentalists, extraordinary clarity of text and texture, and soloists stepping forward from within the choir. The result is Handel's masterpiece heard afresh: urgent, joyful, dramatic and deeply moving. Led by Founder and Artistic Director Christopher Lowrey, Ensemble Altera has rapidly established itself among America's leading professional chamber choirs. Its recordings have received the German Record Critics' Prize, five stars and a Christmas Choice from BBC Music Magazine, and acclaim from Gramophone and critics throughout Europe and the United States. Join us at St. Paul's in the center of Wickford for an unforgettable evening of music at the heart of the Christmas season.
