Carousel Book

The book is a stage! The carousel book form was popularized in the 1920s and 1930s as children’s books. In this course, we will construct a carousel by creating a series of “scenes” that operate like the pages of a book. First, we’ll measure and fold three accordions; then we’ll cut and collage/rubber stamps/ decorate the frames and inner pages. Finally, we’ll sew the three accordions together to complete the book. Once finished this book looks like five theater scenes from the side; from the top it looks like a star. You are encouraged to bring collage materials, pictures, stamps, etc. to decorate your book. “Nikki was excellent at explaining each step and helping us as needed. She was fantastic.” [What did you like about this workshop?] “Making a complicated book structure easy to learn (I'm still showing off my book to friends!)” “Nikki was delightful and enthusiastic. Her preparation was awesome, it was nice not having to bring supplies to my first class with her. Her knowledge of book arts is extensive & her artistry is exciting. All in all it was an inspiring & happy day.”
