This training program teaches lawn and landscape professionals best management practices to reduce pollution. Attendees study fertilizer and pesticide application while taking an exam to earn a required certification certificate.

A science-based training program for lawn and landscape professionals. This class is required for the FDACS Fertilizer Applicator License This class is designed to provide training in Best Management Practices for anyone working in -or interested in understanding- lawn, landscape, pest control, or county/ municipal grounds installation and maintenance. Best Management Practices are focused on reducing nonpoint source pollution resulting from fertilizer or pesticide application. Modules • Introduction • Overview • Lawn and Landscape • Irrigation • Fertilizer • Pesticide • Local Ordinance Review The State of Florida and Sarasota County requires all commercial fertilizer applicators to obtain a Limited Urban Commercial Fertilizer Applicator (LF) license. GI-BMP certificate is required to obtain this license. In many areas, you must be GI-BMP-certified to be able to bid on jobs or have commercial customers. At the end of this class, you will be take a pencil-and-paper exam. Your exam will then be sent to the GI-BMP office at the University of Florida to be graded. If you score 75% or better, your GI-BMP certificate will be mailed to you. CEU-only attendees do not have to take the exam. CEUs: 2 Core + 2 from the following categories: Pvt., O&T, LCLM, LLO, LF, L&O, 4 MAXIMUM Time: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Registration/check-in: 8:15-8:30 a.m. Light breakfast and coffee are provided. Lunch: This program includes time for lunch. If you would like a boxed lunch, please purchase an additional meal ticket. You are also welcome to bring your own lunch. Cost: $20.00 per person. Free for verified Sarasota County Government employees Advance registration is required. You may buy your tickets online or register to pay at the door. Make checks payable to the University of Florida.
