Introducing the Community First Responder Collective. With shared knowledge & resource we can be one another's hope when disaster strikes. Welcome to the CFRC Launch at the 314Oasis Resilience Center The truth is simple. The best help in when things go LEFT is the person RIGHT next to you. That help is best when you TRUST that person. We are each other's greatest hope for survival and recovery. Sometimes disaster is so big, the whole community has to come together, like we did after the May 16 tornado. The Community First Responder Collective is a community based effort to increase our ability to help our neighbors when crisis occurs. We invite you to a series of gatherings to foster connection and knowledge on how we can support one another, while also learning the historic roots of why communities are so often left without what they need after disaster. We will also explore some basic human biology as we explore true health and wellbeing together. WEEKLY SCHEDULE September 21: HEART. Introduction to CFRC, complete your own BE READY checklist. The session will include a basic review of our circulation system and hands on bleeding control training. September 28: HOME. Home really is where the heart is. Understand the assets around you in your home to safeguard your health. Severe heat and severe cold can make home an unsafe space. Recognize the signs of a domestic crisis and connect with support. This session will review home health and safety planning as well as resilience mapping in your neighborhood. October 5. GUT. Food is our first Medicine. How do we get power from it? Why do we choke? Where are the food solidarity movements around us? This will include a hands on session in learning how to support someone who is choking and how to make better food decisions in the midst of so much "food noise." October 12. BREATH. How do we get oxygen from the air and why do we need it? How can we move beyond stigma to solidarity, and how can we respond to overdose to prevent death? This session will include a hands on training in how to give rescue breaths and give Narcan for an opioid overdose. October 19. MIND+BODY. What is the connection between the mind and body, how can we unlock a deeper state of wellbeing and help others who may be facing the unthinkable? This session will include the invitation to experience guided relaxation and ear acupressure. October 26. MUTUAL AID. During this session we will engage in a mutual project to be determined in the previous sessions. November 2. SYSTEMS. Everything around us moves. Recognize the history of modern health and emergency care and advocate for a more inclusive system. Learn the resources around you and connect to prevention in day to day living. November 9. BE READY, STAY READY. Journey to the future of the past with Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower and make your own Disaster readiness kit. November 16. GRADUATION. Review the principles of CFRC and take the next step in being a healing part of our community. All participants will receive a certificate for classes completed and receive an invitation to be part of the next CFRC series in Spring 2027.
