C&C Young Authors Studio

A four-week creative literacy experience where young writers build ideas, create original work, and leave with a finished printed book. Welcome to C&C Young Authors Studio, a four-week Saturday experience designed for children ages 7–13 who enjoy stories, imagination, writing, drawing, and creating something of their own. Participants do not need to arrive knowing how to write or design a complete book. Throughout the series, experienced literacy and education professionals will guide young authors through the creative process, helping them develop ideas, build characters, organize their thoughts, strengthen their writing, and bring their work to life through illustration and design. Children will have opportunities to read, imagine, write, revise, create, and share while working toward an original literacy project of their own. Support and guidance will be provided throughout the experience, while still allowing each child’s individual voice, ideas, and creativity to shape the finished product. Young Authors Studio is designed for children with a range of literacy strengths who are able to participate in a small-group learning experience, communicate or develop their ideas, and engage in reading, writing, drawing, or storytelling with support. Children do not need advanced writing skills, but the experience is intended for participants who are ready to actively engage in the creative literacy process. Finished projects may take different forms. Some young authors may create a short illustrated story, while others may develop a comic-style narrative, poetry collection, creative writing collection, or another original format. The goal is not for every child to produce identical work, but for each participant to create something meaningful they can feel proud to call their own. By the end of the four-week series, each participant will receive a finished printed book featuring their original work. The series will conclude with a Young Authors Celebration, giving participants an opportunity to share and celebrate what they created. Registration includes all four Saturday sessions, writing and creative materials, printing and binding of the final project, light refreshments, and participation in the final celebration. Space is limited to 10 participants to keep the experience personal, supportive, and engaging. Come with an idea. Leave as the author of your own finished book.
