Gain guidance on services, reco This is not just another parenting workshop. “Your Child Was Just Diagnosed… Now What?” is the first session in a new monthly NYD Academy series created for parents and caregivers who are trying to make sense of everything that comes after a diagnosis. In this first class, we are going to talk about the things families are often left to figure out on their own: what questions to ask, what records to keep, how to understand the services being offered, how to advocate when something does not feel right, and how to start building a clear plan for your child instead of feeling like you are being passed from one system to another. We will touch on navigating school and service systems, organizing important documents, communicating with providers, understanding your role as your child’s advocate, and identifying the next steps that make sense for your family. This is also a space for parents to connect, ask questions, share experiences, and learn from one another in a setting where you do not have to explain why the process can feel overwhelming. And this is only the beginning. NYD Academy will continue monthly, with each class focusing on a different part of the journey families face while raising and advocating for a child with a disability or additional support needs.
