Searching for Macroinvertebrates

Join Seasonal Educator Toni on a guided exploration of aquatic wildlife called macroinvertebrates that can show how clean our waterways are! Fish and plants are not the only life in our streams and rivers. Special aquatic wildlife known as “macroinvertebrates” serve important roles for our ecosystems such as providing food for other wildlife and being indicators of stream habitat health. These macros can be found in any waterway, including here at Duke Farms! Join us in a dive for macros to learn how to find them in your local streams and determine how clean they are. Sampling will be done by staff, but you’re more than welcome to bring your own waterproof boots or waders if you’d like to try!
