Turning: Witch Gnome Make & Take Just in time for the holidays, you will learn spindle turning techniques to make and take a witch gnome in time for Halloween. Students will learn the basics of spindle turning on the lathe using carbide tools. The topics covered include lathe setup; safety and operation; spindle turning; and sanding and finishing. In addition to turning, students will learn how to embellish their gnome. A good witch or a bad witch – that is the question and one that can be answered during the embellishment phase. What you’ll do: • Prepare the “blank” using hardwood • Perform cutting/smoothing operations needed to safely mount the blank • Turn and shape the blank using various tools • Shape work-piece to facilitate hardware needed for the final turned assembled piece, when appropriate • Sand the final piece and apply an appropriate finish • Install any hardware needed for the project, when appropriate • Each attendee takes home their completed project Important Info: • Ages 14+ — minors (14 up to 18) must be accompanied by a non-participating parent or guardian (parent attending with a minor does not need to purchase a separate ticket) throughout the entire class • Class is beginner-friendly — no prior experience needed • All materials, hardwoods, and supplies are included • All necessary safety equipment is provided
