PROSTATE vs. PROSTRATE: A Community Conversation on Prostate Health

FREE! Features award-winning film THE BLACK WALNUT on African American prostate cancer disparity. WTKR News Anchor Kurt Williams will speak African American men are diagnosed with prostate cancer at a rate higher than any other ethnic group and die from the disease at a rate more than 2x that of White men. Featuring a main actor, as well as 9 other real prostate cancer survivors, "The Black Walnut" is a multiple award-winning docudrama that provides keen insight on the prostate cancer journey. Popular WTKR-TV News Anchor and Reporter Kurt Williams, himself a prostate cancer survivor-warrior, will deliver the keynote address, sharing insights on his own journey. Local favorite songstress Dee Polite, who lost an uncle to prostate cancer, will open with her rendition of "Black Butterf;y." There will also be a panel discussion with Kurt and other prostate cancer survivors, Numerous health vendors will have vendor tables, to include Sentara Health, a sponsor of the event, as well as Cooper-Mercer Institute, the American Diabetes Association, Sisters Network, and others. There will also be hors d'oeuvres as attendees are watching the film. Note: The event will be in the Parish Hall adjacent, connected to and behind the church.
