This five-week course introduces participants to the Linux desktop environment and terminal interface. Students learn how the system differs from Windows and MacOS while building confidence with technology. The program runs every Friday at Mitchell Park Community Centre for eligible South Australian residents.

Introduction to Linux Course This five-week course, running one day a week, is designed for people who want to build their confidence using technology and take their computer skills to the next level. Linux is a free and reliable operating system used all over the world, and this course will introduce you to the Linux desktop environment, show you how Linux differs from Windows and MacOS, and give you the confidence to make it your own -- including a first look at the terminal, Linux's powerful text-based interface. FREE for people who are: • 18 years old and above and currently not enrolled at school • A South Australian resident or hold a valid work or study visa • Comfortable using a mouse and keyboard, opening and closing applications, and saving and finding files on a computer • Not sure if this course is right for you? If you're new to computers, our Basic Computer Skills for Study & Employment course is a great place to start -- it will give you the foundation you need to get the most out of this course. Term 4, 2026 When: Starting Friday 23 October and running every Friday for five weeks Time: 2:30pm – 5:00pm Location: Mitchell Park Community Centre, 139 Bradley Grove, Mitchell Park For more information, please call 8277 0304 or email [email protected] If you have a laptop, please bring it along — it will need to be capable of running a virtual machine (at least 8GB RAM). Laptops are available to borrow during class if you don't have a suitable device. Courses run in partnership with City of Marion and City of Mitcham, supported by the Government of South Australia. **Registration does not guarantee class placement. All students must attend an enrolment session, please see your ticket email for further information.
