We've all come across something online and wondered, is that actually real? But with artificial intelligence becoming increasingly sophisticated, how can we tell what's genuine and what's designed to fool us? Discover the differences between misinformation, disinformation and malinformation, learn what to look out for when spotting AI-generated images and content, and explore the fascinating science helping us navigate an increasingly complicated digital world. Can you trust your own eyes? Come along and find out. Your Speaker: Professor Lewis Mitchell Professor Lewis Mitchell is a Professor of Data Science at Adelaide University and Director of the Adelaide Data Science Centre. Ever wondered why some stories spread like wildfire online, while others disappear without a trace? Lewis has made a career out of exploring exactly that. His research investigates how information travels through online social networks, using mathematics, data science and machine learning to better understand how ideas, opinions and misinformation spread. Recognised with a prestigious Young Tall Poppy Science Award in 2018 by the Australian Institute of Policy and Science, Lewis brings a fascinating scientific perspective to one of the biggest challenges of our digital age: figuring out what's real, what's fake, and how we can tell the difference.
