The Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science (CPAS) presents a public lecture from Dr Derek Muller, creator of the YouTube channel Veritasium. He won the 2025 AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Gold Award for his investigation into Teflon/ PFAS or ‘forever chemicals’. His video How One Company Secretly Poisoned the Planet has been viewed by millions worldwide. Dr Muller will discuss the making of his film and his experiences creating the Veritasium. A process in which he made almost every mistake imaginable but took a scientific approach to each failure. He'll share insights he learned around targeting the audience, topic selection, principles of video structure, promotion, and responding to criticism.
