Join GoldNet and Healthy North Coast for an evening on emerging infections, travel health and yellow fever vaccination in general practice. Join the GoldNet Research and Education Network, in partnership with Healthy North Coast and the Academic Health Alliance, for a free evening event on travel medicine in primary care. As travel patterns and disease distribution change, primary care clinicians are often the first point of contact for patients before and after travel. This session will cover emerging infectious disease risks, including dengue fever, Japanese encephalitis and rabies, and give a practical update on yellow fever vaccination. This is a free event, and we welcome GPs, GP registrars, practice nurses, allied health professionals and other primary care clinicians. Program (NSW time, with QLD time in brackets) 6:00 pm (5:00 pm): Registration and light refreshments provided. 6:30 pm (5:30 pm): Welcome from Prof Nick Zwar, Chair of GoldNet, followed by: Emerging Infectious Diseases and Travel Prof Nick Zwar (MBBS, MPH, PhD, FRACGP) Nick is a GP of over 30 years, Executive Dean of Health Sciences and Medicine at Bond University, and Deputy Chair of the Australian Travel Health Advisory Group. He will discuss how the patterns of infectious disease risk for travellers are changing, focusing on dengue fever, Japanese encephalitis and rabies, and what this means for advice and care before and after travel. Yellow Fever Vaccination Updates Dr Kirsten Patterson (MBBS, FRACGP) Kirsten is a local GP with special interest and training in travel medicine, and a member of Healthy North Coast's clinical advisory group. She will cover who needs yellow fever vaccination, exemptions, and how to become an accredited yellow fever vaccinator. Open Q&A with presenters Closing remarks 8:00 pm (7:00 pm): Event ends Getting there: Free onsite parking is available, and regular bus services stop at the building entrance.
