Parent Seminar - Newcastle - Best Practice in Screen Use for Education

When screens are used for both homework and entertainment, knowing how to support your child can be challenging. How much is needed for learning? How can you help with distractions? And how should your approach change as your child grows? Join us for an accessible seminar drawing on findings from the Best Practice in Screen Use for Education project, including surveys, classroom observations and focus groups across NSW. Designed for parents and carers of primary and secondary students, this seminar offers practical strategies and conversation starters to use at home. We’ll explore how students use screens at school and at home, what they find helpful or challenging, and how parents and carers can support purposeful learning and balanced screen habits. Topics include: • How are NSW students using screens at school and at home? • What technologies do NSW teachers use for teaching and students for learning? • What digital skills gaps do students have? • What is the nature of student distractions and how can parents help? • How to work with your child’s school to support healthy and effective screen use across school and home settings? Proudly funded by the NSW Government.
