Stack session #3 When: 5:45pm Wednesday 3 February 2027 (doors and MAC bar open from 5:30pm) Where: MAC yapang - 2A First Street, Booragul, NSW, 2284. The book: Monsters: What Do We Do with Great Art by Bad People? By Claire Dederer Details: • Free to attend. Please register your attendance. • Doors and MAC bar will open at 5:30pm for a 5:45pm start • Lake Arts Members receive a complimentary beverage from the MAC yapang bar on proof of membership. • The book: Source your own copy, or purchase from shopMAC ( limited stock). • Light snacks and beverages available to purchase on the night. About Stack Stack started with a simple problem: stacks of art books that rarely get read, often dense or disconnected from the realities of the Australian art world. Stack changes that. What will we read? The books selected for Stack are engaging, thoughtful and often playful, exploring the art world in all its forms - serious, silly, wonderful, and frustrating. They’ll keep you turning pages and thinking deeply about art and exhibitions. Who is it for? Everyone is welcome, including carers with babies. Artists, arts workers, or anyone curious about contemporary art will find Stack a welcoming space to read, think, and talk. Are there any rules? • Book club is a safe space. Please be respectful and kind to your peers • Contribution to the discussion is optional, but encouraged • You do not need to like the book (or pretend to). Disagreement sparks great conversation! • Life happens. If you haven't finished the book, that's not a problem. Please still come along • Everyone is welcome. BOOK #3: Monsters: What Do We Do with Great Art by Bad People? By Claire Dederer 'How rare and nourishing this sort of roaming thought is and what a joy to read' MEGAN NOLAN, Sunday Times 'An exhilarating, shape-shifting exploration of the perilous boundaries between art and life' JENNY OFFILL Pablo Picasso beat his partners. Richard Wagner was deeply antisemitic. David Bowie slept with an underage fan. But many of us still love Guernica and the Ring cycle and Ziggy Stardust. And what are we to do with that love? How are we, as fans, to reckon with the biographical choices of the artists whose work sustains us? Wildly smart and insightful, Monsters is an exhilarating attempt to understand our relationship with art and the artist in the twenty-first century. www.hachette.com.au More info • For enquiries, email: [email protected] • Electronic check-in at the MAC yapang Visitor Services desk.
