Aboriginal Patient Advocacy Training

This full day workshop was developed in partnership with leading Aboriginal health, health advocacy and human rights organisations to develop the skills of the community, community service and health sectors and to increase the availability of health advocacy to Aboriginal people. Our aim is to see health rights knowledge, advocacy skills and an understanding of the impacts of racism and culturally inappropriate care on Aboriginal people and communities, increase - leading to better health outcomes for Aboriginal people. This training is held in person at the Health Consumers' Council offices in Mount Lawley The workshop includes topics such as What is culturally safe care Understanding the impacts of racism on health Understanding the WA health system Health rights Advocacy skills Conflict of interest Vicarious trauma How, when and to who to refer This workshop is delivered by Health Consumers' Council's Aboriginal Engagement Lead, Tania Harris. This episode of the workshop is offered without cost as part of HCC core funding contract with the DoH. This is a small workshop to allow for maximum interaction Workshops are in demand.
