The CHOP Research Seminar showcases work-in-progress from leading Australian and international historians of philosophy. SPEAKER: Jürgen Overhoff (Münster) TITLE: Lecturing on education: Immanuel Kant's use of pedagogy in his philosophy ABSTRACT: During his tenure as a professor at the University of Königsberg, the moral philosopher Immanuel Kant also gave several lectures on pedagogy. On the one hand, he was complying with requirements set by the Prussian government; on the other hand, he had developed a genuine interest in educational issues ever since reading Rousseau’s "Émile". This lecture sheds light on Kant’s interest in educational processes and discusses the indispensable role that pedagogy played in his philosophy at a time when education was being established as a science in Prussia.
