Dr Margaret Spencer and colleagues lead a free interactive workshop for social work field educators. Attendees explore creating supportive placement environments, discuss supervision strategies, and network with peers while enjoying catered lunch at the University of Sydney.

A FREE workshop for current and prospective social work field educators and agencies Presenters: Dr Margaret Spencer – Director of Field Education Liron Drummond & Marley Benz – Field Education Managers Dr Mary-Jo McVeigh –Academic and experienced Social Work Supervisor Thinking about taking a social work student on placement? Already supervising students and looking for new ideas? Join us for a practical and interactive workshop exploring how to create a social work placement that benefits your agency, field educators, students, service users and the future social work workforce. We’ll explore: • Why become a social work field educator? • What makes a great placement? • What does your agency have to offer a student? • What can social work students actually do on placement? • What might incremental learning look like in your agency? • How can you create a supportive and transformative learning environment? • How do you use the placement learning plan effectively? • What makes good student supervision? • How can the Three-Pillar Engagement Framework – “What’s happening here?” support the supervisory relationship? • What does the University expect from a placement—and what support can you expect from us? • What do you do when things aren’t going to plan? Who should attend? Anyone interested in hosting or supervising a social work student—whether you are considering becoming a field educator, preparing to take your first student, or already experienced in field education. You do not need to be a Social Worker to attend the workshop, we value clinicians from all academic backgrounds. Come along, enjoy lunch, connect with other agencies and field educators, and leave with practical ideas, resources and greater confidence to create a great social work placement. Cost: FREE Lunch: Catered lunch provided Venue: R.D. Watt Building (A04), University of Sydney Campus map: https://maps.sydney.edu.au/?building=A04 Places are limited – registration essential. Following the workshop, the University will be holding a Research Seminar from 3:30-4:30pm and an End of Semester Gathering from 5pm-7pm. Separate invitations to follow and we welcome all to attend.
