Exploring Desire & Heartbreak with Robert Greene's The Art of Seduction

This month, we turn to the theme of DESIRE & HEARTBREAK, one drawing you in and the other repelling you from what once was. While Stoic philosophy encourages us to take responsibility for our own emotions and state of mind, the Stoics lived and loved as we all do. They fell in love, they got married, they were betrayed. The same risks in love and war applied then as they do now. As Stoics, how are we to understand the process of yearning and its potential consequences? Who is responsible for heartbreak, the one who desires or the subject of said desire? As the Stoics often warn against placing expectations on things outside of our control, how are we to desire and love with virtue? How are we to handle heartbreak without letting the pain of the experience tarnish our own character? In order to explore these questions, this month the club will be reading Robert Greene’s The Art of Seduction, a deep dive into the many archetypes of seduction, with real historical examples that we may use to drive our exploration of the topic. WWMD is also incredibly excited to announce our NEW meeting spot: The Queen’s Room at the Lieutenant’s Pump (see photo below). This will be a private setup with service for our guests. Our meet will take place on Thursday, November 26, from 7 PM to 10 PM. The meet will be free as always, but please grab your free ticket in advance so we know how many guests to expect. We are leaving an entirely optional tipping function on Eventbrite if you’d like to buy us a coffee (or help pay for the meeting prep and materials).
