Our Grid, Our Future Documentary Screening & Panel Discussion

Who gets to own the energy transition? Join us for a documentary screening and panel discussion on community-owned clean energy! The future is renewable. But will it be ours? We're building a whole new energy system. New infrastructure, new jobs, and new investment opportunities. But who gets to own it, and who will benefit? Join CAFES Ottawa, OREC and Patagonia Ottawa for a special screening of Our Grid, Our Future, a 25-minute, youth-led documentary from Spark Source exploring community-owned renewable energy and its potential to strengthen local economies while building a cleaner future. About the Film In Northern Ontario, a solar farm has been quietly generating clean electricity and financial returns for its community for more than a decade. Our Grid, Our Future follows filmmakers Allie and Sonia to Temiskaming, where they explore a working example of community-owned renewable energy. The film asks a simple but important question: What changes when communities don't just host renewable energy projects, but actually own them? It's a story about solar power, local wealth, rural communities, and who gets a stake in the infrastructure shaping our future. Following the screening, join filmmaker Sonia Vinogradova for a panel discussion exploring the opportunities and challenges of community-owned renewable energy. Together, we'll discuss what these projects could mean for Ottawa and beyond, and how communities can play a greater role in shaping and benefiting from the energy transition. Light refreshments will be provided. Whether you're passionate about renewable energy, interested in community economic development, or simply curious about what a more locally owned energy future could look like, we invite you to join us.
