Before The Serial Killer – A Sip and Scholar Lecture Night

Before “serial killers,” there were werewolves and vampires. Explore how people once explained history’s most terrifying murders. Welcome to Sip and Scholar Professors, experts, and storytellers giving thought-provoking lectures in Toronto bars. 📍 Location: Left Field Brewery (Liberty Village) 🧠 Lecture: "Before the Serial Killer: When werewolves and vampires were blamed for murder" 🎤 Speaker: Dr. Peter Vronsky 🎟️ Ticket: includes your first beverage! Lecture Overview Before we had the term "serial killer," we still had serial murder. We just had very different explanations for it. For centuries, communities confronted with brutal and seemingly inexplicable killings sometimes turned to the supernatural. Murderers became werewolves, vampires and monsters, and real crimes became tangled up with folklore and fear. Historian and true crime author Dr. Peter Vronsky takes us into the dark history of serial murder before Jack the Ripper and the birth of the modern serial killer. AFTER PARTY And because it’s Halloween 🎃, we’re not calling it a night after the lecture. Resident DJ Stevie Kicks takes over at 9:30 PM with a vinyl set. Stick around, make a request from his record collection, and join us for the afterparty. Costumes encouraged. 🧛 Themes: Folklore · Werewolves · Vampires · Fear & Superstition
