Black Holes Explained – A Sip and Scholar Lecture Night

What are black holes, how do we study what we can’t see, and what mysteries are scientists still trying to solve? Welcome to Sip and Scholar Professors, experts, and storytellers giving thought-provoking lectures in Toronto bars. 📍 Location: Exact address given in confirmation email 🧠 Lecture: "Black Holes Explained: A User's Guide and What we know, how we know it, and what we're still trying to figure out" 🎤 Speaker: Alicia Savelli, Astrophysicist 🎟️ Ticket: includes your first beverage! Lecture Overview Black holes are some of the most mysterious objects in the universe. But what exactly are they? Why are they black? What would happen if you fell into one? And if we can't actually see them, how do we know they're there? Astrophysicist Alicia Savelli gives us an accessible guide to black holes, from how they form and why they bend light and spacetime, to the ingenious ways scientists study them using surrounding stars and gas, gravitational waves and the Event Horizon Telescope. And perhaps most importantly: what are scientists still trying to figure out? No physics degree required! Themes: Gravity · Spacetime · Gravitational Waves · Astrophysics
