Elemental Movement: Conscious Dance classes in Mississauga

Elemental Movement is a developing movement method that opens the potential for one's capacity to listen and feel into themselves by bringing conscious awareness to somatic intelligence, utilizing more subtle forms of stimulation to practice observing through the eyes of the heart. In this method, the main vehicles for exploration are music, movement and meditation embodied through imitating the physical elements of nature: Earth, Water, Fire and Air, In recent decades of western civilization, dance has been presented as an art form to perform in front of an audience by prolific professionals. Yet many people are coming back to practicing dance as a form of moving meditation, an activity to bring balance between the body and mind without any focus on choreography or presentation to others. As a benefit, expression through movement can emerge from the core of our essence, resulting in a completed cycle of consciously releasing what no longer serves This upcoming autumn season, a class will be offered the first Saturday of each month between September and December. Each class will cover the footwork patterns, line characteristics and unique features of each Element. There is no prior experience necessary to join any class as each class can act as a stand alone lesson for studying the art of conscious dance. In this series of conscious dance, we will start each session with a very brief review of the historical foundations this method is based upon. Then we will practice with demonstrations, drills, and exercises similar to a martial arts class. The last part of the class will be only music and free form movement to implement the concepts practiced in the earlier portion of class. The music will be organized to mimic the hero's journey, starting slow and mellow, slowly building in pace and intensity over time, reaching a peak or excitement and release and then a simmering into stillness.
