Family Workshop: Diwali

Celebrate Diwali by making your own colourful lantern in our next Family Workshop in the Golden Thread Gallery Hub. Come along to a Golden Thread Gallery Family Workshop in our Community and Engagement Hub. Our Family Workshops take place on the first and third Saturday morning of the month. In each family workshop, we create a new artwork inspired by one of our exhibitions or a seasonal holiday! In our next workshop, create your own mini lantern using coloured cellophane, paper craft and recycled materials to celebrate Diwali (Festival of Light). Light up the Hub with your lantern or take it home to display as the clocks turn back and the nights draw in. What is Diwali? Diwali, also called Deepavali, is a major five‑day festival celebrated mainly by Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs, symbolising the victory of light over darkness. Diwali derives from the Sanskrit word Deepavali, meaning “row of lights.” It is widely known as the Festival of Lights and is celebrated with oil lamps (diyas), candles, rangoli, prayers, feasts, and fireworks. All our workshops are free and all materials are provided; however, donations are welcomed. More information is available on our website. For further information email [email protected] .
