Beyond being the plant from which chocolate originates, cacao holds a rich cultural, spiritual and botanical history. Ceremonial cacao is made from minimally processed cacao beans, retaining many of the plant's naturally occurring compounds, including magnesium, iron, theobromine and antioxidant polyphenols. When taken with SSRIs that release serotonin chemically it can lead to serotonin syndrome). We suggest that pregnant women and people with heart or high blood pressure medication should avoid it if they are caffeine-sensitive. (if you are ok drinking coffee you should be able to drink cacao).
