Full description from organizer

A free evening of soul music, soul food and open conversations in Clapton. Open to all. Building a community where strangers become friends. Let's talk together: A musical evening built around two artists who turned music into protest: Tracy Chapman and Gil Scott-Heron. The night asks one question: How do we change the world if we're only watching it? It moves from passive witness to active participation, through song, reflection and honest conversation. What is it? Soul Conversations is an evening of vespers, soul food and soul conversations at St James the Great in Lower Clapton. Vespers is simply evening prayer, a quiet and unhurried way to close the day with music and reflection. The evening encompasses live music with the speakers talking about the theme and opening the house for conversation, should they please. Then we pull up a chair around a table of warm food and talk honestly about what matters. Find us on instagram @soulconversations.clapton Who you'll meet • Rev Shana Maloney, priest in charge at St James the Great, hosting the evening • Dave Neita, poet and activist, guiding the conversation • Emmet O'Connor, music director, with live music • Guest speaker to be announced What to expect • Live music and a gentle vespers to begin • An open, honest conversation where every voice is welcome • Warm food and a shared table You don't need to have anything figured out, and you don't have to speak if you'd rather listen. Come as you are, bring a friend, and stay as long as you like. Soul Conversations is open to everyone, whatever your faith or none. Entry is free and donations are welcome. Registering helps us know how many to cook for. Good to know • Free entry, donations welcome • Open to all, whatever your faith or none • Starts 7pm; ends 8:30pm • Warm food served • Accessibility: step-free access / accessible toilet
