Join us for a panel discussion on breakthrough trials of psilocybin for depression, led by Prof Guy Goodwin, CMO at Compass Pathways. This panel explores the pioneering clinical research conducted by Compass Pathways in Oxford into the use of psychedelics as a treatment for depression. Its lead synthetic psilocybin compound, COMP360, is currently undergoing FDA review, placing the company at the forefront of efforts to secure regulatory approval for psychedelic-assisted therapies. The Oxford Psychedelic and Psychology Societies are thrilled to host four research scientists from Compass Pathways: Guy Goodwin is CMO, Compass Pathways, and Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford, UK. His research interests are the treatment of mood disorder and the potential to improve treatment using new technology and new drugs, notably the psychedelics. He is a Fellow of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, and has previously held the position of President of the British Association for Psychopharmacology and the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP). Dr Katharine Smith is an Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist at the University of Oxford Department of Psychiatry and at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust. She is Clinical Lead at the NIHR Oxford Health Clinical Research Facility and was recently the Principal Investigator at the Oxford site for the COMP006 study investigating psilocybin in treatment resistant depression. Dr Niall McGowan is a Principal Clinical Research Scientist with expertise in clinical trial design, development, and scientific strategy. He specialises in translating complex scientific and clinical questions into rigorous study designs and development strategies. At Compass Pathways, he leads the clinical development of psilocybin for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Prior to joining Compass Pathways, Niall was a post-doctoral research associate at Oxford's Department of Psychiatry where he researched personality disorders and affective disorders. Ella Williams is a DPhil candidate at the University of Oxford, where her research investigates the neuropsychological mechanisms through which rapid-acting antidepressants exert their effects. As part of her doctoral work, she is establishing the first experimental medicine study in humans using psilocybin at the University of Oxford. She is currently working as a Clinical Research Scientist at Compass Pathways, where she contributes to the clinical development of psilocybin for treatment-resistant depression.
