DLUMG Development of Multi-Functional Land Use Framework Workshop

Come and join us to help shape the land use opportunities maps for farming, nature, heritage and the wider public benefits on Dartmoor. Help us turn these opportunities into practical action. These conversations are a chance for you – as someone who knows Dartmoor’s land, livestock and challenges first-hand – to help identify priorities, explore what is possible and influence next steps. Why come along? Your experience and insight are essential to understanding what will work in practice, where opportunities exist, and what support or changes may be needed to make them happen Together we will explore opportunities to: • align farming with nature recovery and climate goals • restore and increase carbon-rich habitats (peat, mires, woodlands) • prepare for increased wildfire risk, drought, flooding and extreme weather • enhance habitats at a landscape scale (valley mires, heathland, ancient woodland) • identify areas for species recovery programmes • reverse biodiversity decline by improving ecological connectivity across commons and farmland • improve access for all • safeguard prehistoric sites • ensure resilient farm systems and livelihoods We recognise that these priorities can sometimes compete. The discussions will provide an opportunity to explore the practical and wider challenges, consider trade-offs and identify where working together could make the greatest difference. We want to build on what is already working, understand what needs to change and identify practical next steps. The outputs of our conversation will develop a map based framework and identify the enabling conditions (resources, funding, expertise, research) we need to practically deliver the land use opportunities on the ground. We will share the results with you and ask you to return for further workshops/ site visits to progress and finalise the framework and delivery mechanisms, ensuring full integration with the Partnership Plan. The event is convened by the Dartmoor Land Use Management Group (DLUMG), which was established to bring together key partners following the 2023 Fursdon Review. Chaired by Phil Stocker, the group reports directly to the Government via Defra.
