MOR1 a new App - Moorland vegetation practical identification workshop

A practical fieldwork event to identify key moorland vegetation species that inform part of a new, locally developed survey App. Local commoners have been working to develop a new mobile App that builds on and expands the functionality from the original MOR1 (SFI Moorland Assessment option), which captured survey data across an area to identify, assess and record the soil, vegetation, historic and archaeological features. Aiming to build greater practical value from this initial version, work has been completed to design in more relevant and in-depth features reflecting eg. soil and vegetation particularly in context of local examples and how these help inform future management opportunities. As part of this, we will be running a vegetation identification fieldwork event on the morning of Thursday 24th September led by ecologist John Sproull to assist with familiarising key species and in context of the aims of the App, which will be discussed in more detail by those involved in its development. Meeting at Lukesland Gardens initally, with a nearby moorland site visit, from 9am – finishing by 2pm including light lunch - please advise any dietary requirements. Dartmoor Hill Farm Project are running this event as part of the Dartmoor's Dynamic Landscape (Heritage Lottery) programme.
