This course is aimed at farmers and landowners in Fife who have woodland on their land and would like a better understanding of how to man Who is this training for? This training is aimed at farmers and landowners in Fife who have woodland on their land and would like a better understanding of how to manage it, what their options are and where to go for further advice and support. It is suitable for people with little or no forestry experience as well as those already making decisions about existing farm woodland. Why attend? Woodland can provide a range of benefits to a farm or landholding, but knowing when to intervene — and whether to fell, thin, restock, encourage natural regeneration or simply leave an area alone — is not always straightforward. The day will provide a practical introduction to woodland management, looking at: • timber, firewood, biomass and other potential woodland products and markets; • thinning, felling and other management options; • access, machinery, extraction and practical costs; • felling permissions and longer-term woodland planning; • restocking, natural regeneration, species choice and available support; • windblow, pests, disease and climate resilience; and • the economics of woodland management and whether different interventions are likely to stack up. The aim is to help participants feel more confident assessing their own woodland, understanding the choices available and identifying sensible next steps. What does the training not cover? This is an introductory woodland-management course rather than accredited forestry or machinery training. It will not provide practical chainsaw or machinery instruction, individual felling permissions, a detailed woodland management plan for your holding or property-specific professional advice. The course will discuss grants, permissions and sources of further support, but it is not a grant-application or regulatory workshop. If you book places but then can't attend, please let us know by cancelling your ticket on Eventbrite, or by emailing [email protected] or phoning 01592 656080. Nearer the event we will email all participants with details of the meeting place.
