Ground Air Other Thresholds

About this event

Film Screening & Lecture Performance by Florence To Developed from artist and researcher Florence To’s fieldwork in Palestine, Ground Air Other Thresholds follows the movements of birds across different altitudes and the encounters that arise from observing them. Exchanges with Palestinian ornithologists inform questions of migration, ecological conditions and how birds inhabit airspace. The film examines how movement, sound and wavelengths become readable through technical instruments, while exploring the political histories of conservation, protected landscapes and occupation. The accompanying lecture performance draws from Sonic Dispossession, To’s interactive map archive. As field recordings are played and their locations traced on screen, To will read selected passages from their book Other. Absence and Making Public, composing their spoken voice with sounds from the archive. Supported by the Department of Digital Humanities, University College Cork
