Full description from organizer

Conversation between Doğa Sultan/ANTIPODE (Istambul) and Giulia Vallicelli/Compulsive Archive | ENG The talk brings together the two researchers at the centre of this collaboration, exploring what it means to build an archive from below: outside institutions, outside mainstream publishing, outside the geographies that usually define cultural memory. Giulia Vallicelli and Doğa Sultan will discuss their respective practices – one rooted in the italian feminist and queer punk scene of the 1990s–2000s, the other in the contemporary underground of South-West Asia, North Africa, and their diasporas – tracing points of contact, difference, and shared methodology. Questions the conversation will address include: How do you document a scene that actively resists documentation? What does the physical object – the fanzine, the cassette, the poster – carry that digital reproduction cannot? How does geography, language and diaspora shape the archive and what it can hold? – Doğa Sultan (Istanbul, 2002) is an artist working across textile and garment design, street art, graffiti and independent publishing, rooted in punk and hardcore countercultures. She started making zines at twelve, inspired by the Riot Grrrl movement. With Antipode, she documents underground scenes underrepresented in Western cultural discourse, on anti-colonial principles: contributors speak in their own voices and languages. – Compulsive Archive is a Milan-based archival project founded and curated by Giulia Vallicelli (Rome, 1979). It researches and preserves Italian Riot Grrrl and Queercore fanzines from the 1990s and 2000s, treating feminist and queer punk culture as living historical material. Through exhibitions, zine readings and residencies at its Milan studio, it keeps the archive active. Part of the SPRINT ecosystem since its early editions, it shares the festival’s view of independent publishing and DIY culture as political resistance.
