Provides supervisors the advantage and training needed to manage all type of investigative units with confidence. TOPIC: This course is designed to assist patrol officers to transition from the position of road patrol officer into the role of an investigator. Transitioning from the road into the role of an investigator is both difficult and challenging for law enforcement officers. Most law enforcement officer enter the world of investigation untrained and unprepared for their new position. It can take a new investigator six months to a year before they are trained properly. This instruction will give your patrol officer and/or new investigator the advantage and training needed to investigate all type of crimes with confidence. The purpose of this class is to assist participants in learning to transition into the role of an investigator. Participants will learn proper techniques in the areas of case building, organization, managing caseloads, investigative tools, interviewing of victims and suspects, search warrants, arrest warrants, and subpoenas. Participants will gain knowledge in the areas of case reports, elements of crimes and establishing proper probable cause. Participants with establish the knowledge and confidence to investigate specific cases. Training Force USA is proud to partner with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, which is hosting this onsite class and supporting regional law enforcement training excellence. CLASS OBJECTIVES: • This class will help participants transition into the role of an investigator. • Students will review and learn new tools for investigating cases in a simple 6 step program. • Learn skills for building a proper case. • Learn to manage a case load. a. Discuss and learn different investigative tools. b. Learn proper interview techniques for interviewing victims and suspects. c. Discuss probable cause. d. This class will review different Statutes and laws related to specific types crimes. • Discuss elements of different property crimes: a. Burglaries b. Thefts c. Retail Theft rings d. Pawn cases e. Felony trespass 6. Discuss elements of Person Crimes: a. Aggravated Battery b. Felony domestic crimes c. Stalking d. Aggravated Assault e. Attempted Murder 7. Discuss elements of Financial Crimes: a.Frauds b. Fraudulent use of a credit card c. Fraudulent returns d. Forgeries e. Check frauds 8. Students will go over writing and issuing subpoenas. 9. Student will learn how to write a proper case report as an investigator. 10. Students will learn and write search warrants. 11. Students will learn and write an arrest warrant. 12. There will be discussion and instructions on building a strong case. 13. Students will be given techniques on working cases with confidence. INSTRUCTOR: Sergeant Jacqueline Lee Hearon is the supervisor of the Economic Crime Task Force/ Fraud Unit for the Brevard County Sheriff's Office. She heads a multi-agency task force and conducts fraud, supervisor, and investigative training classes. Sergeant Hearon is now a twenty-one (21) year veteran of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office and has thirty (30) total years of Law Enforcement experience. Sergeant Hearon graduated from Seminole College Police Academy in 1990, earned an (A.A.) degree in Criminal Justice from Brevard Community College and a (B.S.) degree in Organizational Management with a minor in Emergency Management from Eastern Florida State College. She instructed for ten (10) years at the Brevard Community College Police Academy, teaching Investigations and Crime Scene. Currently, Sergeant Hearon is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) and a Certified Financial Crimes Investigator (CFCI). She is an active member of several anti-fraud organizations such as IAFCI, ACFE and ACAMS. TARGET AUDIENCE: All members of the criminal justice community. This is a more advanced class and would be a great class for all types of investigators.
