Peter Bernstein/Ed Cherry Quartet

Two of jazz guitar's most celebrated voices come together for a night of masterful, swinging jazz Peter Bernstein – Guitar Ed Cherry – Guitar Gary Wang – Bass Joe Strasser – Drums Peter Bernstein has been a fixture of the New York jazz scene since 1990, when guitar legend Jim Hall personally invited him to perform at the JVC Jazz Festival alongside John Scofield and Pat Metheny. Hall would later say of him, "He is the most impressive guitarist I've heard, he plays the best of them all for swing, logic, feel and taste." Bernstein has since appeared on more than 80 recordings and worked with Sonny Rollins, Joshua Redman, Diana Krall, Jimmy Cobb, and Tom Harrell, among many others, releasing his own acclaimed albums featuring rhythm sections including Brad Mehldau, Larry Grenadier, and Bill Stewart. Joining him is fellow guitarist Ed Cherry, best known for his long association with trumpet icon Dizzy Gillespie, with whom he performed from 1978 until shortly before Gillespie's death in 1993, appearing in his quartet, big band, and the Grammy Award winning United Nation Orchestra. Since then Cherry has worked with Paquito D'Rivera, Jon Faddis, Hamiet Bluiett, and Henry Threadgill, and JazzTimes has praised his "hip, melodic approach" as "a refreshing contrast to guitarists who frequently resort to playing finger music." Together with bassist Gary Wang and drummer Joe Strasser, this is a rare and extraordinary pairing of two guitar masters in one room. The Side Door Jazz Club is a dedicated jazz listening room located inside the historic Old Lyme Inn, 85 Lyme Street, Old Lyme, CT. Tickets are reserved seating. Guests dining at the Old Lyme Inn prior to the show receive 10% off their dinner bill.
